The Value of Play
by Michelle Fauver

In this crazy and hectic life we lead, what is one thing we can do to slow down, enjoy our family and friends more, and to help cement our relationships?  Play.  Not the electronic variety, but good old fashioned board and card games.  Why? They give us a peak into the real personality of those playing with us- they help us to unwind, de-stress, and most of all, laugh!  Laughter is the best medicine.

Play is important.  Children learn by playing. Playing games teaches numbers, math, counting, reading, sequencing, colors, and other more important skills like: taking turns, playing fair, winning and losing gracefully, and also getting along with others.

When we stop to play with our children, it shows them how IMPORTANT they are to us- we have taken time from our busy schedules and shown them with our time that they matter to us.  Teenagers especially need this.  They get so caught up in their friends that family ceases to be worthy of their time.  And, yet, they crave time with their families, even when they complain about it.  (and I should know, I have three teenagers!! )

What other rewards does play give us?  Adults need play time too.  Plan a game night with your friends!  Take the time driving there and home to talk to your significant other, catch up with your friends, relax, de-stress, have fun and play!

As you do your holiday shopping, look for some new games that are fun and easy to play, start a new tradition to play for a half hour just once a week and see where it leads your family.

Michelle and Bill Fauver LOVE their mission to promote the importance of play through their SimlyFun business.  They have 6 children and love to play games together.  SimplyFun games fit the bill because they can be played in a short amount of time, and they are fun for all ages.
